You are standing at Walton’s War Memorial, located in the Memorial Garden at the junction of New Zealand Avenue, High Street and Ashley Road.

The memorial was unveiled on the 8th of July 1921 and was originally dedicated to the 132 local servicemen who lost their lives during the First World War. Like many towns across Britain, Walton was deeply affected by the conflict, and the memorial became a place for the community to remember those who never returned home.

Over the years, the memorial has been rededicated to honour those who lost their lives in later conflicts, including the Second World War and a local soldier who died during the Iraq War.

The memorial is a Grade II listed structure and remains one of Walton’s most important civic landmarks. Every year, it becomes the focal point for the town’s Remembrance Sunday service, when local people gather to remember those who served and sacrificed their lives.
