Take a deeper dive into Walton’s fascinating past with this extended version of the Town Centre Trail. Alongside the highlights of the shorter route, you’ll discover connections to an American President and a Second World War hero. This route reveals the many layers of Walton’s story and is ideal for those who want to explore beyond the town centre’s main historic sites.
Start the Town Centre Routes
If you would like to start to trail fully refreshed, start at The George in Bridge Street. Or start at the Nationwide Building Society on Church Street. The short and extended trails follow the same route for the first 6 stops. The split after Elm Grove House, so be sure to check the directions at that point.
Proceed along Church Street.
1 - Admiral Rodney’s House

4 - Ireton’s House
5 - Walton War Memorial
6 - Elm Grove House
After Elm Grove House, the short and extended routes split.
For short route, proceed down New Zealand Avenue. Turn left into Ashley Park Avenue, then right to car park.
For the extended route, follow Hersham Road for 1 mile, turn right under railway bridge into West Grove.
7 - The White House
After the White House, re-trace your steps. Turn left into Mayfield Road. Pass through station subway, turn right into Station Avenue.
8 - Flt. Sgt. Charles Sydney Memorial Plaque
9 - Site of Former Birds Eye Building
At traffic lights, turn left and return along Hersham Road to War Memorial. Turn left into New Zealand Avenue. Turn left into Ashley Park Avenue, then right to car park.
10 - Ashley Park
11 - Walton Cricket Club
Return to the start by crossing New Zealand Avenue then through The Heart Centre.
