This elegant riverside home was once the residence of Sir Arthur Seymour Sullivan, one of Britain’s most celebrated composers.
Sullivan is best known for his famous partnership with dramatist W. S. Gilbert, together creating a series of comic operas that became international successes. Their works include H.M.S. Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance, and The Mikado — pieces that remain beloved on stages around the world today.
Beyond his collaborations, Sullivan was an extraordinarily prolific composer. His work spans operas, orchestral and choral music, ballets, hymns and sacred music. Among his most well-known pieces are the hymn Onward, Christian Soldiers and the reflective song The Lost Chord.
