Walton Trail

Welcome to the Walton Trail

All of the historic locations are within easy reach on foot or by bike. You can explore them one by one or you can follow one of the trail routes using our handy guides. The town centre trails and river route were created by WoTTA and have been updated by the Walton BID to now include audio and additional information. We hope you enjoy them!

Routes 1 and 2 – Town Centre

Step back in time and discover the people, places and events that helped shape Walton-on-Thames. Our town centre routes reveal centuries of history, from naval heroes and royal connections to film pioneers and local landmarks.

Route 3 – The Thames River Route

Follow the River Thames and discover Walton’s rich riverside heritage. From pioneering filmmakers and famous composers to historic wharves, bridges and ancient crossing points, this scenic trail combines beautiful views with fascinating stories from the town’s past.

Route 4 – The Postbox Trail

Discover a different side of Walton through six historic postboxes, each bearing the insignia of a different monarch. This unique trail offers a fun way to explore the town while uncovering over a century of postal and royal history.

This Trail was created by resident Jill Clarke to entertain her young grandson Dan when he was a boy in the early 2000’s.
