Walton Greening

We started our team in early 2024 and started works on weeding, pruning, planting and maintaining the War Memorial Garden and the beds alongside Sainsbury’s on New Zealand Avenue in May 2024.

We joined South & South East in Bloom in June and a team of 2 judges visited and saw our efforts to award us Level 1 ‘Establishing – an ‘it’s our neighbourhood’ zone for Walton central.

We hope all the events we can achieve will enable us to start to take more care of the town centre and achieve further awards from South & South East in Bloom in future years but more importantly gain more volunteers who can really create a team for ‘Greening Walton’ and develop more areas of planting that our whole community can enjoy.

This is our Greening Walton Group – our volunteers have been busy all summer maintaining the War Memorial Gardens – weeding, watering and litter picking and so the smaller group doing real ‘heavy lifting’ wedding, cutting our nettles, emptying beds of roots and litter and cutting back lower level trees and shrubs before we got the professionals in to work at height.
