Local Lowdown – December 2025

Welcome back to your Local Lowdown — your monthly guide to what’s happening in Walton. December is here, and the town is full of festive cheer, community spirit, and plenty of ways to support our incredible local businesses.

This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Small Business Saturday on the 6th of December. Look out for the special boards around town celebrating Walton’s independent businesses, and don’t miss our feature video reel showcasing the amazing owners and staff who keep our town centre thriving. It’s the perfect day to shop small, discover unique Christmas gifts, and enjoy everything our businesses have to offer. And to make it even easier, parking in the three town centre car parks will be free on the 6th, 13th and 20th of December.

Our Best Dressed Window Competition is back! Vote on our website until 5pm on Sunday 28th. You can vote for your top three windows, and our winner will be announced in the New Year! This competition rewards the winning business with the chance to treat their staff – to thank them for their hard work all year round!

We’ll also be running a Love Walton Kids Club on December 22nd and 23rd, hosted at The Walton Village. New for December we have teamed up with local business Baker Leigh – to offer a Christmas Biscuit Decorating workshop for children aged 8+. Space is limited and cost £3 per person – this includes a visit from Father Christmas and a free gift, as well as the biscuits you decorate to take home! Tickets available in early December – keep an eye out on our social media and website.

Alongside the biscuit workshop, Love Walton is funding a fun craft activity session for children aged 3+, so that families can send an older sibling to the biscuits and the younger ones to crafts. They will get to meet Father Christmas and receive a free gift, and this session is FREE to attend. OR if you just love crafts then this session is for you.

Watch out for our school holiday festive trail throughout the town centre – coming later this month. Winners can choose a gift card of their choice from a business, café or restaurant in the BID zone to spend in the New Year!

December is also a great time to give back. We’re encouraging anyone who’s able to take part in the Walton & Hersham Foodbank Reverse Advent Calendar. Even one or two items from the list will make a real difference to local families as we head into the new year. With Aldi, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s, Superdrug and The Warehouse all in the town centre, picking up items couldn’t be easier. There’s a special community drop-off on Saturday 10th January from 10am to 12 noon, or you can drop donations to Barclays Bank on Church Street or James Neave Estate Agents on the High Street at any time throughout December.

And while you’re planning your festive fun, keep an eye on our What’s On page for free events at The Heart, seasonal performances at The Playhouse, and plenty of other festive activities happening across town.

Walton is sparkling this December — shop local, get involved, and enjoy the magic of the season.
