Meet the Business: Union Hair – A Warm & Welcoming Salon with a New Look!
Nestled in the heart of Bridge Street, Walton-on-Thames, Union Hair has become a trusted name in the local community, offering a full range of hairdressing services in a warm and welcoming environment. At the end of last year the salon received a fresh, new look – and the Union Hair website has been revamped too! We were keen to stop by to check out the new decor and catch up with Karen Louise, owner of Union Hair, to find out more about what makes her salon so special, her love for Walton, and why she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.
A Love for Bridge Street
Karen has lived in Walton-on-Thames for 14 years and has spent 13 of those working here. Her connection to the town runs deep, and she has seen first-hand how the strong community spirit makes Walton such a great place to live and work.
“Bridge Street has such a special vibe that people love. There’s a real sense of community here,” says Karen.
What Makes Union Hair Different?
Unlike some businesses that focus on competition, Union Hair embraces individuality.
“I don’t like to think of other salons as competitors—we all attract different types of clientele,” Karen explains. “What sets us apart is the warm, welcoming, and friendly atmosphere we create for every client who walks through our doors.”
It’s this approach that has helped Union Hair thrive despite economic challenges and big-name shop closures. Walton’s independent businesses, especially along Bridge Street, continue to create a unique and personal shopping and service experience that customers keep coming back for.
A Love for Local Life
When she’s not busy styling and transforming hair, Karen enjoys supporting other local businesses. She has a particular love for independent restaurants and is a huge fan of Sushi Wakyo – it’s her favourite place for a dinner out and she recommends it wholeheartedly to new visitors to Walton. “Their menu is always changing, and I always come away happy,” she shares. “Romaan is another favourite when there is time for lunch—their fresh food is just lovely.”
And when it comes to relaxing, Karen enjoys walking along the towpath by the river, dropping by one of the pubs for a drink and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.
The Heart of the Business – The Clients
For Karen, the heart of Union Hair is simple: “Clients! Without them, we wouldn’t be here.”
Her business mantra, “To love your hair again!“, reflects the salon’s mission—helping people feel confident, stylish, and happy with their hair.
Love your hair again!
Looking Ahead
Despite the ups and downs of the economy, Union Hair continues to thrive, proving that great service and a strong sense of community are the key ingredients to lasting success.
So, if you’re in Walton and looking for a friendly, professional salon that puts care, expertise, and individuality at the forefront, Union Hair is well worth a visit.
