Help Set Sail for the Future: Support the 1st Walton Viking Sea Scouts’ New HQ
The 1st Walton Viking Sea Scouts, based on Felix Road in Walton-on-Thames, have been helping young people gain confidence, skills, and a spirit of adventure for generations. But to continue their vital work—and to grow—they urgently need a new headquarters. Now, they’re asking the Walton community to show support by submitting letters via a quick online form.
Why They Need a New HQ
Their current headquarters is over 100 years old. Despite years of TLC and ongoing maintenance, it’s simply no longer suitable for modern needs. The building is cramped, outdated, and difficult to adapt for today’s health, safety, and accessibility standards.
And with over 160 young members aged 4 to 18 across the Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers—and a waiting list of over 200—the space is no longer adequate.
“We’re bursting at the seams,” says the Viking Sea Scouts Committee. “We want to welcome more young people and offer them the full benefits of Scouting—but we need a purpose-built, flexible space to do that.”
A new, larger HQ would not only allow for bigger groups and more parallel sessions, but would also provide a modern, accessible space that could benefit the wider Walton community.
A Resource for the Whole Community
Although the current HQ is bustling most evenings and weekends, there are daytime periods where it’s underused. The Scouts are keen to make the most of these opportunities by opening up their new HQ to other local voluntary and community groups.
“The limitations of our current building mean we simply can’t host other groups right now,” the Committee explains. “But with a modern space, we could support more local activities, training sessions, and events.”
